Emergency Situations

Emergencies tend to happen at unexpected times, both during the day and the night. True life-threatening medical emergencies are best managed through our community's Emergency Medical Services.

If you feel that you are experiencing a true, life-threatening medical emergency, you should call 911.

Urgent Care Facilities

An urgent care facility is designed to fill the gap between situations that require an ER and those that can wait to make an appointment with your normal family doctor.

Sometimes, the situation arises where you know you need medical attention soon in order to prevent a more serious problem. You may also suddenly find yourself in pain or discomfort without an emergency at all. For these situations we recommend that you first try to make an appointment with our clinic. But if this occurs after hours, you may need to visit one of our locations and be seen on the urgent care side of Rocky Mountain Urgent Care and Family Medicine.

An Emergency Room

Emergency Rooms are equipped to handle all acute medical problems. However, the best use of an emergency room is for true life-threatening emergencies, or when all other medical offices, including urgent care centers, are closed. Examples of true life-threatening medical problems include:

  • Chest pain
  • Major trauma
  • Potential stroke (numbness, tingling or weakness in any part of your body)
  • Severe stomach pain
  • Altered mental status
  • Injuries with a loss of consciousness
  • Children less than the age of 3 months with a fever higher than 100.4 degrees

The following is a list of phone numbers that you can use to contact Emergency Rooms in this area:

Facility ER Phone
Medical Center of Aurora (303) 695-2780
Swedish Medical Center (303) 788-6911
North Suburban Medical Center (303) 450-4482
Platte Valley Medical Center (303) 659-1531
Longmont United Hospital (303) 651-5000

Poison Control Center

If someone has ingested or been exposed to a potentially toxic substance, the Poison Control Center provides a 24 hours/7 day a week service to help. They can help direct you in how to best handle the situation. They can be reached by phone at (303) 739-1123.

Same Day Appointments

We understand that accidents and illnesses rarely seem to happen at your convenience. In many cases, we are able to provide same day appointments, allowing you to see your family doctor quickly when the need arises. Call the Rocky Mountain Urgent Care and Family Medicine office near you and we will do our best to get you a same-day appointment.

Not Sure if You have an Emergency?

If you feel that you have a non-life threatening medical urgency, and you wish to determine if your situation is an emergency that needs to be treated in the emergency department or in our office, you should follow this protocol.

During Regular Family Medicine Appointment Hours

Please call our office, and explain to the front desk that you feel that you have an urgent medical situation. Depending on the urgency of your situation, you will be directed to either a nurse or a provider. Our staff will discuss your situation with you and determine when and where you need to be seen. We may ask you to come to the office the same day, make an appointment for a later day, or ask you to proceed directly to urgent care or the emergency department.

During Weekends and After Hours

If you are an established Rocky Mountain Family Medicine patient, call the number to the clinic in which you are a usually seen and follow the prompts on the weekend and after hour’s phone message. If you are not are not an established Rocky Mountain Family Medicine patient, and need to be seen by a doctor, please visit us through the urgent care side or the emergency department, depending on your situation, and schedule a follow up new patient visit with Rocky Mountain Family Medicine.
