Respiratory Fitness Medical Evaluations
Rocky Mountain Occupational Services offers respiratory fitness medical evaluations. Respiratory Protection regulations can be found in OSHA Standard 1910.134. Specific regulations regarding required medical evaluations can be found in Standard 1910.134(e).
According to Standard 1910.134(e), using a respirator may place a physiological burden on employees that varies with the type of respirator worn, the job and workplace conditions in which the respirator is used, and the medical status of the employee. OSHA specifies the minimum requirements for medical evaluation that employers must implement to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator.
The employer shall provide a medical evaluation to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator, before the employee is fit-tested or required to use the respirator in the workplace.
Rocky Mountain Occupational Services performs medical evaluations using the medical questionnaire provided by OSHA in Appendix C of Standard 1910.134(e) and in-office spirometry when indicated.
